Bootstrap Summer Training Runs

Summer Training Runs at Telulah Park

When: Saturday 7:00 am (May - September)

Where: Telulah Park, 1300 E Newberry St, Appleton

These group runs are open to the public. These runs are used to train for any of the Community First Fox Cities Marathon races (5K/10K/Half/Full/Relay). You do not need to be signed up for the Community First Fox Cities Marathon to join these runs. And you do not need to be a PaceSetters Member to join these runs.

Our Training Plan

There are shorter runs for those training for the Half Marathon and longer runs for the Full Marathon. Near the beginning of the training season, the runs are shorter distance, and slowly the distance is increased, week by week.

Once every 5 weeks there is a reduction in milage to give our bodies a bit of time to heal and acclimate. 6 weeks before marathon weekend there are a couple peaks and valleys, where we have a high mileage week, to get a taste for what race day will be like, followed by a low mileage week, for healing and recovery. Of course, you can run less than the prescribed mileage if your training plan differs from this approach.

How to find us?

Before these runs, we convene at the smaller pavilion in Telulah Park. Just look for the group of runners and the running decorations. After the run, we reconvene at Telulah Park to refuel with fruit, Dunkin donuts, water, gatorade, and a bit of socializing.

Parking: There is parking next to the pavilion

Restrooms: There are restrooms in the pavilion

Worried about your pace?

Don't be! We have yet to have a runner join us that was too (so-called) fast or (so-called) slow. There will most certainly be one or more folks to run with at your pace. The vast majority of peeps that attend our group runs are somewhere between 8 to 12 minutes per mile, and everywhere in between. If you are faster than 8 minutes per mile, you can do an extra little loop here and there to stay connected to the group. If you are not quite at 12 minutes per mile, feel free to Contact Us. We just want to ensure that all folks feel welcome and are not left to run alone

Maps and Routes

Because it's nice to know where to go. There will also be printed and laminated turn by turn directions that you can bring with you on your run. Or, better yet, the RunGo app can be used to get audio turn by turn directions. Click on one of the links below or the image of the route/map to open the route/map in the RunGo app.

Water Stations

Every few miles, there will be a volunteer providing water and gatorade. Check out the maps to know exactly where each water station will be. And if you would be willing to volunteer (thank you!) at one of the water stations please Contact Us.

Turn Signs

Along the route, where there are tricky spots, such as at trail heads, in a park, or just some weird intersections, we put out turn signs to hopefully help keep you on course.

The VDOT Calculator

By the way, speaking of pace, check out the VDOT Running Calculator, it's pretty cool. You plug in your race pace, and it spits out what your race pace should be for various different types of runs, tempo run pace, easy run pace, interval, and so on. It totally takes the guess work out of figuring out your pace and ensures you have the right pace for your various training runs. Nice!

Let's celebrate you (because you rule)
