Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage Alaska
Our members, Elaine Moore, Dave Moore, Michele Micke and Kathy Bruns, all participated in the Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage Alaska on June 17, 2023.
Elaine commented that "Alaska is absolutely gorgeous but it could have been a little warmer. The Mayor's Marathon is mostly on the trail so you view moose, bears and many birds while running."
Barclay Backyard Ultra
Here is a pretty cool short documentary on a recent running of the Barclay Backyard Ultra.

My favorite part was when the founder Lazarus Lake recalled "Not all athletes have the same ability but all athletes have the same value". No such thing as Most Valuable Player (MVP). We are All Value Players!
TOP 10 RACE DAY TIPS
1. Eat well, drink well, sleep well (obvious but many slip up on this one
2. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (don't change the routine you used in training)
3. If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail (don't forget safety pins for your bib and have to sprint to start line)
4. Double tie the shoe laces (they are difficult to re-tie in the middle of a race)
5. Keep warm at the start line (shed extra layers of old donate-able clothes you won't miss)
6. Keep the elbows in (enjoy the crowded atmosphere and don't stress fighting for a better position)
7. Go fishing (once race adrenalin has calmed, start picking others in front who you think you can catch, and don't become someone else's fish)
8. Save some in the tank for a sprint finish (it's fun to finish strong)
9. But, know where the finish is (familiarize yourself with the race route)
10. Enjoy it (soak it all up and smile)
