TRAINING RUNS, FUN RUNS, RACES

UPCOMING TRAINING RUNS AND RACES

Only a few Summer Training Runs remain before our Fox Cities Marathon! Now that it is September and our Marathon weekend will be here soon, our weekly Saturday 7:00 am runs at Crunch Fitness will be coming to an end. We started our journey together on June 1st, and will continue our supported Training Runs through September 14th, in preparation for the Fox Cities Half and Full Marathon on September 22nd. We are almost there!

Starting Saturday September 28th, our PaceSetters running club will be moving our weekly Saturday runs to the Copper Rock, 210 W. College Ave, Appleton. These runs start at 8:00 am. We utilize the same 10 mile route every week, along lightly travelled streets which include some fantastic river views, but there are options to vary that distance to meet your needs. Water is available at about the 4.5 mile mark, courtesy once again of John Ebel (Thanks John!). Afterwards, many of us stop inside the Copper Rock for some friendly conversation and perhaps a coffee and a light snack. These runs continue throughout the winter, rain, snow or shine, and are a great opportunity to stay in touch with each other and keep our bodies moving as the cooler weather settles in.

It's nearly Ready Set Go time for our Fox Cities Marathon weekend!!!!!

Good Message, Bad Location

Thanks Justin

This summer many of you participated in the weekly Saturday morning marathon Training Runs at Crunch Fitness. This helped us prepare for the upcoming Fox Cities Marathon/Half Marathon events coming later this month. We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge Justin Powell, the person responsible for coordinating these runs every weekend this summer. This was an important role, assuring people were identified to help at the water stations out on the course, getting them the things they needed, and making sure they knew when and where they needed to be. He was often the first guy out there very early, making sure things were ready to go for all of us. He set up the tent and table at Crunch Fitness, and was the last one to leave, getting everything taken back down. Some weeks that was a 5+ hour commitment.

THANKS JUSTIN FOR ALL YOUR DEDICATION AND HARD WORK!!

CRAZY NEW RUNNING SHOE FROM ON

The Swiss shoe brand On has unveiled its newest brand, the CloudBoom Strike LS. Essentially it’s a spray on shoe. The LS stands for LightSpray, the trademarked name of the technology. A robotic arm is used to spray the one piece upper onto the shoe. This upper is ultra-thin, adaptable to the foot, seamless and lace free, the shoe weighs in at a mere 170 grams and takes the manufacturer only 3 minutes to fully assemble. Another benefit is that this process claims to reduce the upper’s carbon emissions by 75% compared to other racing shoes because the upper is made from a single recyclable material that eliminates the need for glue. Helen Obiri wore a development version and won the 2024 Boston Marathon with it.

It should be available for purchase this fall or winter for approximately $330. Start saving.
